Quitting smoking is the number one reason people use e-cigarettes

E-cigarette products are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as smoking cessation devices, however, a new investigation suggests that smoking cessation is what drives users to vaping products.

Miami-based V2, a brand of e-cigarette and vaping products, conducted a survey asking 300 vaping American adults why they vaped.

When asked why they chose to use e-cigarettes:

62% said they did it to "quit smoking"

38% of people are dual users, vaping is to "get nicotine when you can't smoke"

36% said they "prefer that e-cigarettes have more flavors than traditional tobacco cigarettes"

29% said they did it because e-cigarettes are "more socially acceptable than smoking"

“E-cigarettes are a legal alternative to combustible cigarettes for most adult smokers,” said Adam Kustin, V2’s vice president of marketing, “and more and more smokers are switching from combustible cigarettes to e-cigarettes. That’s why the recent FDA The fact that legislation treats e-cigarettes as cigarette products is frustrating."

The online investigation took place on May 11 and 12, just days after the FDA released the final presumptive rule. The presumption rule will take effect on August 8. It expands FDA's authority over all cigarette products, except cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, which have been under FDA control since Congress passed the Family Smoking Prevention Act and Tobacco Control Act in 2009, and now FDA can also regulate e-cigarettes , cigars, hookah cigarettes, pipe tobacco, etc.

According to another survey of 300 vapers released by V2 on June 7, three-quarters of e-cigarette users believe that e-cigarettes "should be regulated in some way."

In addition, the June 7 survey results also showed that 49% of respondents said they would smoke back combustible cigarettes if regulations took e-cigarettes out of the market.
